Florida’s FPI ranking says it all: the Gators aren’t close to SEC’s best

ESPN’s Football Power Index has Florida ranked No. 11 in the SEC after Week 10 with an FPI rating of +10.7. It’s another reminder of how far the program has fallen from the SEC’s upper tier and how much work remains before the Gators can climb back.
Florida’s 24–20 loss to Georgia last weekend showed the same mix of effort and inconsistency that has defined the season. The Gators played hard early but faded late, missing chances to close the door when it mattered. Quarterback DJ Lagway continued to struggle with accuracy and rhythm, with plenty of fans continuing to call for freshman Tramell Jones to get a look.
The Gators sit at 3–5 heading into this weekend’s game against Kentucky and injuries continue to pile up across the roster. Florida’s depth has been tested and there are few easy answers as the team tries to avoid another late-season slide.

The big picture is simple: Florida is not where it needs to be. The Gators have talent but not enough consistency, youth but not enough leadership. The next few weeks are less about making a run and more about figuring out who can help lead the program forward once a new head coach is in place.
