Gators head coach Ron Zook gets carried off Bobby Bowden Field after the Gators defeated Florida State University 20-13 in Doak Campbell Stadium on the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday November 20, 2004. The reason this is one of my favorite photos of the year is because of the great irony it represents. Ron Zook had such a roller coaster career as Florida's head coach. A tough row to hoe for sure coming in after the departure of Steve Spurrier, one of Florida's greatest coaches. The great irony of this photo is that Florida couldn't manage to beat the worst team in SEC but they could come to Tallahassee and beat Florida State. Go figure. (Alan Youngblood/Star-Banner)2004

Ron Zook finished 23–14 overall at UF and 16–8 in SEC play, a tenure defined by near-misses, what-ifs and, yes, some really bad luck. He still believes a fourth season would have changed everything.
