Gators finish No. 7 in final Directors' Cup standings

Behind a national championship season in men’s basketball and nine top-10 team finishes, the Florida Gators athletic program has landed at No. 7 in the final Learfield Directors’ Cup standings for the 2024-25 year. Per a UF release, “Florida is the only program to finish among the nation’s top 10 in each of the last 41 national all-sports standings.”

The UF basketball team, led by coach Todd Golden and first-team All-American point guard Walter Clayton, the NCAA Tourney Most Outstanding Player, claimed the third national title in men’s hoops in Gators history. As an athletic program, Florida now has won a national team title in 16th straight seasons. As the school noted in a release, “Florida is one of two programs with a national title each complete season since the 2008-09 campaign. UF has 28 championships in that span.”

“The Gators Boys journey to the NCAA title gave Florida fans a tapestry of memories this season,” UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin said in a release. “That championship led the Gators’ nine top-10 team finishes in 2025. We thank all responsible to giving Florida fans a chance to cheer. Behind every Gators team are hard-working student-athletes, encouraging coaches and dedicated staff focused on competing among the nation’s best.”

Top-10 finishes during the 2024-25 season, were produced by the following UF teams:

  • No. 1 Men’s Basketball
  • No. T3 Men’s Golf
  • No. T3 Lacrosse
  • No. 4 Men’s Swimming & Diving
  • No. 6 Women’s Swimming & Diving
  • No. 7 Gymnastics
  • No. T7 Softball
  • No. T8 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field
  • No. T9 Volleyball

The Texas Longhorns finished at No. 1 overall in the Directors’ Cup standings.

    The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup, presented annually by the nation’s athletics directors, recognizes the schools with the best overall sports performances in an academic year. The scoring system uses finishes in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball championship action. Additionally, a program can receive points in up to 14 other sports toward its final score. Texas claimed its fourth Directors’ Cup this season.
