Pete Alonso, the former Florida Gators star now with the New York Mets, is headed back to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game. He was chosen as a reserve infielder for the National League, MLB announced Sunday.

For Alonso, a first baseman, this will be All-Star Game appearance No. 5. He also was chosen in 2019, ’22, ’23 and ’24. His selection this year comes as no surprise. That’s because Alonso is having one of the best seasons of his career. Following Sunday’s game, he is batting .287 with 20 homers and 73 RBI, the latter ranking third in all of the majors. Additionally, he’s carrying a .380 on-base percentage and a .923 OPS.

According to the New York Times, Alonso won’t be taking part in this year’s Home Run Derby. Alonso won the Home Run Derby in 2019 and 2021. He was a semifinalist in 2022.

“I just decided not to do it this year,” Alonso said, per the Times. “I have never really fully enjoyed the three off-days, so I just want to be in the best possible position to help this team win in the second half. I’m in a groove with certain things. … I love the event. It’s a sick event. I definitely will do it again. It doesn’t mean ‘No’ forever. I figure I’ll take a break.”

The All-Star Game is July 15 at Atlanta’s Truist Park. Here’s who else was chosen to play in the game:
