The No. 13 Florida Gators have named three veteran starters as captains for Saturday’s game against the USF Bulls. And one of them is a Tampa native.

This week’s captains are senior offensive tackle Austin Barber, junior cornerback Dijon Johnson and senior corner Devin Moore. Johnson is a product of Tampa’s Wharton High, which is only a few miles from the USF campus.

The Gators name different captains each game. Running back Ja’Kobi Jackson, EDGE George Gumbs and long snapper Rocco Underwood were UF’s Game-1 captains against LIU.

Barber is coming off a fantastic opening game. Per Pro Football Focus, he graded second highest among Florida offensive starters in the 55-0 win over LIU. Like All-American UF center Jake Slaughter, Barber earned a PFF grade above 91 and a run blocking grade above 90 (90.3). He also received a run blocking grade of 85.4.

Barber generated significant hype ahead of his senior season. He was a preseason All-SEC first-team choice by both the media and the coaches. Additionally, ESPN’s Field Yates projected him to be a first-round pick. Earlier this week, USF coach Alex Golesh said this of Barber: “The left tackle is another level special.

Johnson had one tackle in the opener. Moore recorded two. Both players are valuable members of a Florida defense that held LIU to only 86 yards and two first downs.
