Gators Online Show: UF contract details, recruiting budget rises

Welcome to the Gators Online Show! For episode 84, co-hosts Zach Abolverdi and Nick de la Torre discuss the latest contract details and financial figures coming out of Gainesville.

We open the show with Friday’s news on the Florida football front. With the 2024 staff now in place, UF released the contract details on its new assistants and coaches who signed extensions.

The additions on the staff are Ron Roberts, who serves as executive head coach, co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach, secondary coach Will Harris, defensive line coach Gerald Chatman and offensive line coach Jonathan Decoster.

The Gators also promoted tight ends coach Russ Callaway to co-offensive coordinator, which came with a $250,000 pay raise, and extended the contracts for co-offensive coordinator Rob Sale, running backs coach Jabbar Juluke and EDGE coach Mike Peterson.

Florida also released the contract details for Tyler Miles, who was promoted to the director of football strength and conditioning in February after the departure of Craig Fitzgerald. Miles previously worked in a sports science role as the director of player athletic development.

The report for UF’s 2022-23 fiscal year also came out Friday, and the athletic department made a significant investment in recruiting. Florida spent $4,563,927 for all sports compared to $2,966,896 the year before. The biggest beneficiary was the football program.

The recruiting budget for Billy Napier and his staff increased by $1.25 million, spending $2,892,538 after $1,641,320 the year before. The Gators signed a top-10 class for 2024 but finished with the nation’s No. 6 average player rating (91.39), their highest rating since 2010 (91.83).

We then share our thoughts on Florida men’s basketball coach Todd Golden agreeing to a two-year extension with the Gators, as well as what would be a successful postseason run in March. His team defeated Georgia 85-80 in the SEC Tournament on Thursday.

We wrap up the show by previewing the SEC opener for the UF baseball team against No. 4 Texas A&M. The Gators are looking to rebound from a 12-8 loss at home to in-state rival Florida State on Tuesday.
