The Florida Gators softball team is headed back to the Women’s College World Series. UF beat archival Georgia 5-2 in a winner-take-all Game 3 NCAA Super Regional on Sunday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville to punch its ticket to Oklahoma City.

Florida, the third seed in the NCAA Tournament, improved to 48-15. Georgia fell to 35-23. This is the UF program’s 13th berth in the WCWS and will be the third appearance in the last four seasons.

Florida pitcher Keagan Rothrock allowed four hits and struck out five in a masterful complete-game performance. Gators right fielder Taylor Shumaker went 3-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in. Shortstop Rylee Holtorf also had a homer.

Shumaker singled home Kendra Falby with no outs in the bottom of the first to put UF in front 1-0. Holtorf added a two-run, two-out home run in the bottom of the fifth to give the Gators a 3-0 lead. She was 0-for-8 in the series before that at-bat.

Two batters later, Shumaker smashed her 22nd homer of the season, a two-run blast.

All told, the Gators finished with 14 hits.

Florida won the first game of the series 6-1 on Friday. The Dawgs responded by winning Game 2 on Saturday, 2-1, to set up Sunday’s series finale.

The Women’s College World Series begins Thursday.
