Gators signee Davian Groce produces epic performance in state semifinals win
Frisco Lone Star is heading to the Class 5A Division I state championship in Texas and Florida Gators signee Davian Groce is a big reason why. The 4-star receiver came up big for the Rangers on Friday night in a 56-52 win over Aledo in the semifinals, producing a memorable performance.
Groce, one of the top players in Florida’s 2026 signing class, recorded 15 catches for 310 yards and four touchdowns. He added 21 rushing yards.
Afterward, his quarterback, Trey Wright, said this, per Frisco ISD Communication: “He is the most talented player to ever come through the program. So for me, if I give him the ball in space, I know something is going to happen.”
Davian Groce did a little bit of everything in the win
Three of Groce’s touchdowns came in the first half. But he saved some of his biggest plays for the fourth quarter.
Lone Star needed three touchdowns in the final five minutes to win. The first came from Groce, whose 44-yard TD reception with 4:50 remaining cut the lead to 52-42. Groce had another long catch on Lone Star’s next scoring drive. It covered 48 yards from his team’s 1. And he wasn’t finished.

With Lone Star down 52-49 following a touchdown with 1:49 left, the Rangers went with an onsides kick. Groce was the player who recovered it..
“It means everything,” Groce told the Frisco Enterprise. “I tell the coaches whatever you need me to do, I’m going to do it. I don’t do it for me. I do it for the team, the coaches, the fans. We wouldn’t be here without them, I wouldn’t be here without my teammates. It’s the whole team that thinks that way, if we keep leaning on each other and trusting the process we can do what we’ve been doing and that’s win every week.”
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Groce is the No. 10 receiver and No. 67 overall recruit nationally in the 2026 class for Rivals. He signed with the Gators two weeks ago and is the highest-ranked member of the UF class.
