HOOPS: Florida Gators slide in the updated AP Top 25 Poll

After sitting as the No. 3 team in the AP Top 25 Poll to open the college basketball season, the first in-season edition of the rankings dropped on Monday. Following the conclusion of week 1 games, which included a season-opening loss to Arizona and a home win over North Florida, the Florida Gators dropped 7 spots to No. 10 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.

The Florida Gators are 1-1 after the first week of the season
Despite the loss to Arizona, the AP voters didn’t punish the Florida Gators for their 93-87 season-opening loss to the Wildcats. However, it was a pretty steep drop for a game that was competitive until the end. Arizona was the No. 13 team when it took on the Gators, but jumped to No. 5 in the updated AP Poll. Interesting, there were 4 Top-25 matchups to open the college basketball season, and the lower-ranked team was victorious in all of them.
“I thought we played pretty well in the first half, and then Arizona did a good job just putting us in the basket,” Florida head coach Todd Golden said after the loss. “I thought Koa Peat did a really good job in the one-on-one iso situations finishing. … And Jaden Bradley stepped up in the second half. I thought we did a poor job keeping him from getting downhill, going to his right hand. [He] made some tough finishes.”
However, the Florida Gators got things back on track at home in their next contest against the Ospreys.
“Really pleased with our guys’ effort tonight,” Todd Golden said after UF’s most recent game. “I thought the guys executed the game plan that Coach Carlin Hartman put together really well. We wanted to limit their catch-and-shoot opportunities. We held them to two assists the other night. That’s something we were really pleased with.
