Texas utility Katie Stewart (20) runs past Florida infielder Mia Williams (11) after hitting a home run in the sixth inning of a Women's College World Series softball game between the Texas Longhorns and the Florida Gators at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Thursday, May 29, 2025.

It’s a win-or-go-home day for the Florida Gators at the Women’s College World Series. After losing to Texas 3-0 in Game 1 of the event Thursday, UF must beat No. 7 Tennessee in an elimination game on Friday night in Oklahoma City to keep its national championship hopes alive.

“We have a lot to improve on (Friday),” Gators coach Tim Walton said Thursday. “We don’t play the same team tomorrow that we did. Sometimes when you get to this side of the bracket, you have to figure out how to turn the page because you can look at yesterday and yesterday’s team is not playing us tomorrow. So we have to do a really good job at turning the page and figure things out.”

The Vols suffered a heart-breaking walk-off loss to Oklahoma on Thursday. Even though Florida and Tennessee are both in the SEC, this is their first meeting this season. While the Gators are a big-hitting team, the Vols have won mostly because of their pitching so it should be a great contrast in style.
