Jabbar Juluke named Texas running backs coach
Jabbar Juluke, the Florida Gators’ running backs coach during the four seasons of the Billy Napier era, has found a new home after not being retained by new UF coach Jon Sumrall. Juluke was named Texas’ running backs coach and associate head coach for offense, the program announced Friday. Inside Texas reported earlier in the day Juluke interviewed for the position Dec. 11.
Juluke replaces Chad Scott, who was dismissed by the Longhorns earlier this week.
Juluke was a popular Gators assistant and during each season with UF he had at least one running back (and often more) produce solid numbers. His most noteworthy signing in Gainesville was Jadan Baugh of Decatur (Ga.) Columbia. Baugh led the Gators in rushing yards (1,170), rushing attempts (220), rushing touchdowns (eight) and total touchdowns (10) in 2025, and he became the 10tth Gator all time to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Baugh also led the Gators as a true freshman in 2024 with 673 yards.
At UF, Juluke coached other successful running backs such as Montrell Johnson Jr. and Trevor Etienne.
Despite Baugh’s big season, UF ranked only 89th nationally in rushing (136.75) in 2025. However, the Florida offense as a whole was 104th in yards and 110th in scoring (21.6).

The Longhorns hope Jabbar Juluke can help a weak running game
Meanwhile, Texas was 52nd in points (29.5) and 75th in yards (382.8). The Longhorns, hurt by injuries and poor offensive line play, averaged 129.67 rushing yards a game, good for only 101st.
As Inside Texas noted, “Texas just completed a 9-3 regular season with losses to Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia and was left out of the College Football Playoff despite wins over Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt. It’s the first time since 2022 that the Longhorns have been left out of the College Football Playoff and failed to play for its conference championship.”
Juluke arrived in Gainesville following the 2021 season after working for Napier at Louisiana. He previously coached at Texas Tech, LSU and Louisiana Tech and before that was a prominent high school coach in New Orleans.
