Report: Jon Sumrall expected to bring key staffer to Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — New Florida coach Jon Sumrall is expected to hire one of his key Tulane staffers. Sumrall will reportedly bring director of football operations Jeremiah Cartwright with him to UF, according to On3’s Byrce Koon.

Cartwright has worked with him at his last two stops and served as his director of football ops at both places. He’s in his second year as Tulane’s DFO after being promoted to the same role at Troy by Sumrall before the 2023 season.

Cartwright joined the Troy football program in 2016 as a student manager and worked in difference facets of the program. He spent the 2020 season as the Director of Player Development intern, the 2021 season as an operations intern before becoming the operations graduate assistant in 2022.
 
Cartwright earned his bachelor’s degree from Troy in sport management in the fall of 2020.

Other recent Florida hires

*Buster Faulkner, Offensive Coordinator: Faulkner previously was OC at Georgia Tech the past three seasons. After Game 12 of 2025, the Yellow Jackets were 28th in scoring (33.1) and 12th in yards (466.3). In 2024, they were 61st in scoring (28.5) and the year before that, they were 43rd (31.1). The Jackets were 125th the season before his arrival. Faulkner has been credited for being a major part of the program’s turnaround.

*Brad White, Defensive Coordinator: White had been Kentucky’s defensive coordinator since 2019. Per a UF release, “Kentucky strung together seven-consecutive, top-45 FBS defenses from 2018-24, featuring four top-25 defenses in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022” under his direction. White joined the Wildcats program in 2018 as outside linebackers coach. He previously worked with the Indianapolis Colts from 2012-17. He was outside backers coach his final three seasons with that organization. Sumrall coached with White at Kentucky from 2019-21.
