After last week’s difficult 24-20 loss to No. 5 Georgia in Jacksonville, there was only one thing the Florida Gators could do: Put that one in the rearview mirror and buckle down for Saturday night’s game at Kentucky.

“We’re moving on from that and getting ready for obviously a tough Kentucky team,” UF interim coach Billy Gonzales said this week.

Both Florida and Kentucky are 3-5 overall. But each has suffered its share of close defeats in 2025.

For the Gators, the offense might tell the tale Saturday. Florida is undefeated (11-0) when scoring 22 or more points since the 2024 season. This year, they’re 2-3 in the SEC and UF scored 29 and 24 points, respectively, in the two wins (Texas, Mississippi State). On the flip side, in losses to LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia, the Gators scored only 10, 17 and 20 points.

Last year in the Swamp, Gators running back Jadan Baugh rushed for five touchdowns, DJ Lagway threw for 259 yards—with five completions gaining 40-plus yards—and UF rolled to a 48-20 win. Now, Florida hopes to recapture that offensive magic, something we have not seen from the Gators this season.

UF leads the all-time series with Kentucky 54-21 and is 22-12 in Lexington. The Gators are just 1-3 in their last four games against the ‘Cats; that win, of course, came last season. Since 1978, UF has won 20 of the last 23 meetings at UK.
