MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA—In desperate need of a win to turn their season around, the unranked Florida Gators fell flat on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. The UF offense was dominated and the Miami offense was efficient. When it was over the No. 4 Hurricanes had a 26-7 win.

Miami improves to 4-0. UF has dropped three straight and is 1-3.

Billy Napier’s Gators entered having lost back-to-back games to USF and No. 3 LSU in hard-fought battles. In each, the Gators self-destructed in key moments. Saturday in south Florida, UF just got flat-out beat.

The Gators finished with 141 total yards and seven first downs. Eighty of those yards came on UF’s lone touchdown drive in the third quarter, which drew UF to within 13-7 on a touchdown run from Jadan Baugh. The Gators twice had the ball after that with chances to take the lead but couldn’t capitalize.

A 13-play, 80-yard drive from Miami put the game away after a 1-yard run by CharMar Brown with 4:08 left. The ‘Canes added another touchdown later after UF failed to convert on fourth down in its own territory.

Gators quarterback DJ Lagway had another off game. He was 12 of 23 for 61 yards. But he wasn’t alone in struggling. The offense averaged a party 2.7 yards per play.

UF is off next week before playing host to No. 8 Texas on Oct. 8.

Napier now is 20-22 at UF. Meanwhile, Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal, who like Napier is in season 4 at his current school, improved to 26–16 with Miami.
