FINAL: Florida dominates in 38-6 win over South Carolina

The Florida Gators (6-4, 3-4 SEC) have taken down the South Carolina Gamecocks (6-4, 3-4 SEC) by a score of 38-6.

The win makes the Gators eligible for postseason play, and they’ll jump South Carolina in the SEC East division standings.

Florida now holds a 30-10-3 record over South Carolina and hasn’t lost to the Gamecocks in Gainesville since 2014. The win also marks Napier’s first over Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks as head coach of the Gators.

Fourth quarter

The Gators get a fourth down stop in the red zone to keep the score at 31-6 with 13:41 remaining. Richardson and company will start at the Florida 17 yard line.

Montrell Johnson gets his first score of the night from 8 yards out to make it 38-6 with 6:02 remaining in the game.

Nay’Quan Wright fumbles in the red zone, and the Gamecocks will get the ball back with 1:14 to play.

Third quarter

Rashad Torrence II comes up huge for the Florida defense on the first play from scrimmage of the second half. He forces a fumble and recovers it, and the Gators will get to work at the South Carolina 31 yard line.

The Gators are unable to convert on the short field as Mihalek’s field goal attempt is blocked. It’s still 24-6 with 11:42 to play in the third quarter.

Florida forces another fumble. This time, it’s Desmond Watson, and the Gators will start at the Gamecocks 12 yard line with 10:58 left in the quarter.

Richardson hits Jonathan Odom to extend the Florida lead to 25. It’s 31-6 with 9:43 to play in the third.

Three drives for South Carolina just this quarter, and they’ve all ended in fumbles. Trey Dean comes up with the fumble recovery, and the Gators will go to work again at the Gamecocks’ own 34 yard line with 9: 27 left in the third.

The Gators come up empty after a mishap on special teams. The Gamecocks will get the ball down 25 points with 7:17 left in the quarter.

Second quarter

Gervon Dexter puts an end to the Gamecocks’ drive with a sack on Spencer Rattler. The Gators will set up shop at their own 7 yard line with 12:43 remaining in the half.

The Gators failed to score in the red zone, but Adam Mihalek puts it through from 28 yards out to make it 24-0 with 6:24 to play in the first half.

South Carolina gets on the board with a fake field punt that goes 48 yards for a score. The Gamecocks’ 2-point conversion is no good. It’s 24-6 with 1:52 to play in the first half.

The Gators fail to come up with anything on the final drive of the half, and it’s an 18-point game as both teams head into the locker rooms.

First quarter

The Gators score on their opening drive to make it 7-0 with 9:17 to play in the first quarter. Anthony Richardson capped off the 14 play, 75-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown rush. It’s 7-0 Gators.

UF comes up with a quick three and out and will get the ball right back at their own 36 yard line with 7:11 to play in the first.

Richardson hits Ricky Pearsall in the end zone to increase the Florida lead to two scores. Gators lead 14-0 with 4:31 to play in the first quarter of action.

The Florida defense stops the South Carolina offense once again. Florida will go to work from their own 15 yard line with 2:20 to play in the quarter.

Trevor Etienne wastes no time to give the Gators their third score of the game with an 85-yard rushing touchdown. There’s still 1:59 to play in the quarter, and the Gators lead 21-0.
