More All-American honors for Florida center Jake Slaughter
Florida center Jake Slaughter has added another major honor to his resume, as the Associated Press named him a Second Team All-American on Monday.
The AP is the second organization to release its All-American teams for the season. Other honors will be announced this week by the American Football Coaches Association on Dec. 16, the Sporting News on Dec. 17 and the Football Writers Association of America on Dec. 18. The NCAA will announce its Consensus All-Americans on Dec. 19.
Slaughter started all 12 games at center during his senior season and appeared in 51 games over his career, earning 33 starts. He snapped the ball 748 times this year and allowed just one sack, one quarterback hit and two hurries. His performance earned strong grades from Pro Football Focus, including a 78.9 overall offense grade and an 82.2 run-blocking grade. He also posted a pass-blocking grade of 70.0 or higher in 11 games and finished the season with a team-best 87.1 pass-block grade.
Among centers nationwide, Jake Slaughter ranks eighth in PFF run-blocking, pass-blocking and overall offense grades. He also ranks fifth in zone run-blocking with a grade of 80.3.
