One school is trending heavily for 5-star Gators TE target Kaiden Prothro
One of the Florida Gators‘ top tight end targets has officially entered the home stretch of his recruitment.
On Tuesday, Kaiden Prothro, a 5-star prospect from Bowdon (Ga.) High, announced a final three of Florida, Georgia and Texas. His decision is set for July 12, giving all three programs a few more weeks to make their case. Those details were given to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.
The Gators hosted Prothro for an official visit earlier this month. That trip helped solidify their spot among his top choices. Coming out of that weekend, Florida and Georgia were viewed as the two most likely landing spots, with Texas staying in the mix as well. The Dawgs and Gators have been the most consistent from the start though.
However, the buzz is strongest around the Bulldogs. Georgia has been trending heavily in Prothro’s recruitment and is widely considered the team to beat heading into his July decision. The Bulldogs have made the in-state standout a clear priority, and the early read is that they’ve built a strong relationship with both Prothro and his family.
That said, Florida has not backed down and remains firmly in the picture. Tight ends coach Russ Callaway has been leading the charge for the Gators and the staff believes Prothro could be a valuable fit in the offense. They’ve been pushing hard down the stretch for a number of months, hoping to close the gap as the announcement date approaches.
At 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, Prothro is a natural pass catcher with good speed and route running. He is a prospect who can create plenty of mismatches with his combination of size and route-running ability.
