Report: Florida Gators extend AD Scott Stricklin's contract

Florida Gators athletics director Scott Stricklin has had his contract extended by three years, reports ESPN’s Pete Thamel. It now runs through 2030.
Gators Online has not yet independently confirmed this report.
Stricklin has been Florida AD since Sept. 27, 2016. Prior to that, he held the same role at Mississippi State from 2010-2016. He began his career in college athletics at Mississippi State in 1990 working in media relations.
The Gators have won multiple national championships under Stricklin, including the 2025 men’s NCAA basketball title. The coach of that team, Todd Golden, was hired by Stricklin. Gators football coach Billy Napier, who enters Year 4 with the program and is 19-19 overall at UF, also was a Stricklin hire.
Per Nick Schultz of On3, “Stricklin’s contract had been due to expire in 2027 after a previous extension in December 2021. That agreement set his salary at $1.725 million – an increase from $1.151 million per year.”

Thamel reported the Stricklin news while writing about college football hot seats for 2025. He posted the following:
“The temperature on Billy Napier has cooled considerably, and the Gators have a top-flight quarterback and great expectations again. He’s 19-19 through three seasons, and his buyout remains eye-popping at $20.4 million. (There’s no offset or mitigation on the deal.) Athletic director Scott Stricklin gave Napier a midseason vote of confidence last year by announcing he’d return, and Florida responded with a strong finishing kick by winning four straight to close the year. Stricklin clearly has his back. And per an ESPN source, Stricklin has three additional years added to his contract, which now runs through 2030. That bodes well for Napier, as they are clearly aligned.”
