Trey Burton inducted into Florida Sports Hall of Fame

Former Florida Gators football standout Trey Burton was inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class Wednesday night in Port St. Lucie.
Burton, a native of Venice, Fla., played for the Gators from 2010–2013. He later spent several seasons in the NFL with Philadelphia, Chicago and Indianapolis. Per a UF release, “the Gators now have 50 members represented in the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.”
The Hall of Fame said this about Burton:
“Trey Burton attended Venice High School where he was a standout dual-threat quarterback for the Venice Indians. He received a scholarship to attend the University of Florida, where he played for coach Urban Meyer’s and Will Muschamp’s Florida Gators from 2010 to 2013.
Originally recruited as a quarterback in Meyer’s spread offense. He played several positions for the Gators, including receiver, tight end, fullback and quarterback. As a freshman, he broke Tim Tebow’s team record for touchdowns in a game with six during a 48-14 victory over Kentucky.
He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014. There, he won Super Bowl LII with the team in his final season – helping to execute the Philly Special.”

About the Florida Sports Hall of Fame
Started by the Florida Sports Writers and Sportscasters Association, the Florida Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1961. The mission is to recognize and honor the state’s greatest and most significant sports figures. The organization has inducted close to 300 members. By sharing their inspiring stories, the mission is to make a difference in the lives of the state’s youth.
Along with a campaign to promote fitness and combat childhood obesity/diabetes, the mission also speaks to the promotion of discipline and honor among the state’s athletes. It is the goal to use the life-stories and lessons learned by Hall of Fame members to encourage and support today’s competitors.
Memorabilia from Hall of Fame members is on display at the MidFlorida Events Center in Port St.Lucie. The center is free and open to the public Wednesday—Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. To learn more, visit flasportshof.org.
