GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Two former Gator Greats will be enshrined in the Florida-Georgia football Hall of Fame this year. The City of Jacksonville has announced that former Florida Gators standouts Trey Burton and Andre Caldwell will be inducted into the 2022 Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame Friday, Oct. 28, as part of Florida-Georgia weekend.

“Jacksonville has served as the stage for the Georgia-Florida rivalry for nearly a century,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “We are proud of this tradition and as we gear up for this year’s Georgia-Florida game. We look forward to honoring players who have contributed to this legacy.”

Burton was originally recruited as a quarterback for the Florida Gators in 2010 but played all over the field during his college career including wide receiver, tight end, fullback, and running back. Burton holds the school record for most touchdowns in a single game with six (five rushing, one receiving). He became only the fourth player in SEC history to score 36 or more points in a single game. In 50 career games with Florida, he had 720 rushing yards, 976 receiving yards, and 20 total touchdowns.

Caldwell was a four-year letter winner at wide receiver. He finished his career with a school-record 185 receptions and 2,349 yards. That’s good for the third-highest total in Florida history. As a junior in 2006, Caldwell helped the Gators win the SEC and National Championship. As a senior team captain in 2007, Caldwell recorded a career-high 761 yards and seven touchdowns on 56 receptions and was the recipient of the Gators’ Fergie Ferguson Award.

The duo will join Georgia’s Champ Bailey and John Little as inductees to the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame.

Florida-Georgia game

The Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs will meet on October 29, 2022. Georgia leads 53–44–2 and this will be the 100th all-time meeting between the two schools. If you ask Georgia, it’s the 101st meeting. The Bulldogs recognize a 52–0 victory in 1904 against a school known as the University of Florida. That University is not what became the University of Florida and UF doesn’t recognize that game in its record books.

The Bulldogs ascended to No. 1 in the Associated Press poll this week following the dismantlings of Oregon (49-3) and Samford (33-0).
