UF basketball signs Sacramento State transfer Alex Kovatchev

The Florida Gators basketball program has added another piece to the roster. Monday, the school announced it has signed Sacramento State transfer guard Alex Kovatchev.
He’s a 6-foot-5 redshirt sophomore from Perth, Australia.
Kovatchev fills UF’s last available scholarship spot on the roster.
Kovatchev started each of Sacramento State’s first four games of last season, but missed the final 28 games with an injury. He averaged 8.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 25.2 minutes per game. Kovatchev scored a season-high 14 points at UC San Diego, and 13 points vs. Cal Maritime.
The previous season, Kovatchev played in 33 games as a true freshman and made 12 starts. He averaged 5.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 22.8 minutes a game. He recorded a season-high 15 points vs. Pacific Union and scored in double figures three times. Kovatchev knocked down 32 3-pointers in 33 games played.

All told, Kovatchev scored 198 points in 37 appearances with 16 starts at Sacramento State, averaging 5.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in his career. Per a Florida Gators release, he also “spent time competing at The Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence, where he played alongside Alex Condon.” Condon is a starting post player for the Gators, who won the 2025 national championship.
From his official Gators bio, here is Kovatchev’s International Experience:
-Played for the Australian Centre of Excellence in the NBL1 East League in 2022.
-Played for Western Australia at both the U18 and U20 Australian Junior National Championships.
-Helped Western Australia to the national championship at both those tournaments.
-At the U20 National Championships, which took place in February of 2023, he averaged 14.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game on 48% shooting from the field.
-During the eight-game tournament, he scored 20+ points on three occasions.
-That includes 20 points (9-of-14 FG), six rebounds and three assists in the team’s final game of the tourney.
