The college football world has been as chaotic as ever this season, with several notable programs making coaching changes. Among the schools now searching for a new head coach are Florida, Penn State, Arkansas and Virginia Tech.

During a recent appearance on The Triple Option podcast, College Football Hall of Famer Urban Meyer shared which job he believes stands above the rest. It’s the one he once called home.

“It’s not even close and I think it’s Florida,” Meyer said.

Meyer, who led the Gators to national titles in 2006 and 2008, explained why he chose Florida over Notre Dame when he made a similar decision two decades ago.

“I’m Irish Catholic. I still love Notre Dame and not many people know this story, but I was offered both jobs,” Meyer said. “A lot of people thought I was going to South Bend, but Florida’s a better job. It’s the recruiting, and at that point in my life, I had young kids at home.”

Meyer went on to explain why geography gives Florida an edge over schools like Penn State and Notre Dame.

“This is why I’m saying it’s ahead of Penn State because when you recruit at Notre Dame or Penn State, you’re on a plane half the time,” said Meyer. “When you’re at Notre Dame, because I did it as an assistant coach, you’re recruiting Seattle, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Arizona, Dallas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Detroit and Chicago. At Florida, you’re a 45-minute flight from your recruiting base. I had two planes and they said I could be home at night. I said this is a no-brainer.”
