On Nov. 22, the Florida Gators honored legendary UF football coach Urban Meyer with a plaque at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium that recognizes Meyer for his selection to the College Football Hall of Fame. Tuesday night, the induction to the HOF took place in Las Vegas during the 67th National Football Foundation Annual Awards Dinner.

Meyer is the 14 Gator and fifth Florida coach to enter the College Football Hall of Fame.

Meyer spent six seasons at Florida and he posted an overall record of 65-15 with an SEC mark of 36-12. The Gators won two national titles, along with two Southeastern Conference championships and three SEC Eastern Division titles under his direction. His teams competed in six straight January bowl games, including three BCS bowl games.

Meyer was named the All-American Football Foundation Coach of the Year in 2008, the season UF won title No. 2 with him as coach. His overall winning percentage of .813 ranks second all-time in program history.

Meyer, 61, went 187–32 all time as a college head coach. After leaving UF, he went 83–9 at Ohio State and won his third national championship while in charge of the Buckeyes.

Also of note, per a UF release:

-“Meyer became the first coach in the history of the Football Bowl Subdivision to post consecutive 13-win seasons (2008 and 2009). He guided the 2008 and 2009 team to a school-record 22 game winning streak, the fourth-longest in the history of the SEC and the longest in the league in 15 years. Between Oct. 4, 2008 and Oct. 2, 2010, his teams won 16-straight SEC games, the second-longest in school history.”

-“Meyer was 11-4 (.733) against top-10 teams at UF and his Gator teams were ranked at one point in 89-consecutive polls, including 67 weeks in the top 10 and 16 weeks at No. 1. At the Swamp under Meyer, the Gators posted a record of 36-5 (.878). Against rivals Georgia, LSU and Florida State, the Gators earned a mark of 13-5 in six seasons under Meyer.”

When Meyer was in Gainesville on Nov. 22, the school announced he will be inducted into the University of Florida Football’s Ring of Honor during the 2026 season.
