Q&A with DJ Lagway, Myles Graham
On Lagway’s performances and struggles at LSU:
DJ LAGWAY: “I didn’t play well at all and got to do better. I didn’t play turnover-free ball, and any time you have five turnovers in a game, can’t expect to win.”
On if there was a common theme with his picks:
DJ LAGWAY: “Yeah, just bad ball placement on a lot of things, bad misread throws, you know, I got to play better. And like Coach Napier always says, this is a practice sport. You got to practice. You got to play it. You get through it and continue to work and I’ll get better.”
On if Lagway’s lack of practice has made things more difficult:
DJ LAGWAY: “I would say it’s definitely been hard. But God does everything for a reason. I missed that time period for a reason to assess some things and fix some things that I needed to fix — on and off the field. So, I can’t ever say like that was big problem. I just keep my head down and just gotta just work hard and continue to get better.”
On how to process a five-interception performance like that:
DJ LAGWAY: “Yeah, I’ve never had a performance like that in my life, so it’s kind of hard to process it. But at the end of the day, it’s all about, how do you bounce back, and how do you respond? And I’m planning on doing so.”
On if he needs to spend more time in film study:
DJ LAGWAY: “Yeah, it’s definitely always ways to improve your process and things like that. But like I said, I’m just excited to get back to work, man. I got to get this taste out of my mouth. I played horrible football today, and I got to do better.”
On Napier’s conversation with him after his fourth INT:
DJ LAGWAY: “We just talked about, just in the situation of the game, and what we’re trying to accomplish there. I kind of left it a little high on the receiver on the post route, and I missed the throw. But he’s just telling me, ‘I see what you were thinking there. But we gotta play the play a little smarter right there in that area, you know, trying to get three points.'”
On what interception bothered him the most:
DJ LAGWAY: “I’d say all of them bothered me. So, it wasn’t really one that just stuck out. I feel like the one before halftime really hurt, giving them three points, before going into halftime. But, like I said, all of them was really, it was really painful. But I just got to play better and I will.”
On Graham’s thoughts on UF’s defensive performance:
MYLES GRAHAM: “Yeah, I feel like we played well. We’re still not perfect, still not perfect football, you know what I’m saying? It’s closer to the standard but it’s still not perfect. And it wasn’t good enough for the win, so it’s not good enough. So it’s not just on the offense, it’s on us too. We could have made some plays, capitalized on more opportunities to make more plays and get off the field, give the offense more time with the ball. So it was a good performance but not good enough.”

On UF not getting pressure on Garrett Nussmeier:
MYLES GRAHAM: “I think it had something to do with scheme. But it’s not because our rush has gotten any worse or anything. They were getting the ball out pretty quickly, so we had to play tighter coverage so our rush could get there quicker. So, that’s partly on me too.”
On if it was demoralizing for the defense to keep going back out on the field after turnovers:
MYLES GRAHAM: “No, no, our defense is built to respond. It’s built to respond off of turnovers. What happens over there has nothing to do with us. So, we have to play to our standard and just keep playing football no matter what happens.”
On if the Gators feel like they were right there to win this game and just a couple mistakes away:
MYLES GRAHAM: “Man, I feel like it was a dogfight all game. I feel like they’re a great team, we’re a great team. We just gotta — we beat ourselves, honestly. On offense, defense, we’ve gotta play better on both sides of the ball. It’s a team game. It’s not just on DJ, it’s not just on the defense, it’s not just on one person. It’s on all of us and we’ve got to all-around play better. The game slipped out of our hands two weeks in a row, so that’s a problem that we’re gonna fix. We’re gonna get back to work and fix it.”
On the key to rebounding from this loss as the schedule doesn’t get any easier:
DJ LAGWAY: “Oh yeah, for sure. We’ve just got to rally the troops. That’s all we can do at this point. We’ve got to rally the troops and just breed confidence in the guys, you know. We can’t — we gotta come around, having swag, playing our game. We’ve gotta be better and continue to improve our process and results will come.”
MYLES GRAHAM: “Absolutely. I mean, we’ve seen how hard we work together the whole year. The whole offseason. I’ve seen how hard DJ’s worked, first person in the facility and the last one to leave. So I still believe in him, I still believe in all the guys in the facility and the coaches and everybody. I’ve seen how hard we’ve worked. We’ve bled together all year, so this is not gonna phase us man. We bounced back last year and we’re gonna do it again this year.”
On if the five interceptions impacted DJ’s personal confidence:
DJ LAGWAY: “Oh no sir, not at all. I don’t put my confidence or how I feel in a game that I play, you know, because my confidence comes from the Lord. So, of course I want to play better, but I’m not gonna let this defeat my confidence. I know who I am and I know what I can bring to the table. It’s just a matter of doing it.”
