GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Billy Napier and his staff signed a dozen transfers in UF’s 2023 class, addressing key needs with some of the top available players at those positions.

The Gators landed 10 transfers during the winter portal period and two more this spring. They also added a pair of JUCO prospects in running back Ja’Kobi Jackson and EDGE Quincy Ivory.

The top 275 of the On3 Transfer Portal rankings features seven Gators, including a top-150 signee. Three are ranked in the top 15 at their positions, although one plays a different spot at UF.

Here’s where the dozen Florida signees rank nationally and at their respective positions in the On3 Transfer Portal rankings, along with where they ranked as high school prospects.

GATORS TRANSFERS

OL Micah Mazzccua (Baylor)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 128 overall, No. 8 interior offensive lineman

Transfer portal rating: 90.00

Class of 2020 ranking: No. 44 interior offensive lineman

High school rating: 86.40

Quotable: “I like him. He got some freakin’ dog in him. I’d rather say ‘whoa’ then ‘go’, so give me guys like that. … He’s a little bit different than [O’Cyrus Torrence]. Cybo’s like a big old teddy bear, but when he buckles that chin strap, you better hold on. Micah just comes in the building sometimes in the morning and just looks pissed off.” — Gators offensive coordinator Rob Sale

LB Mannie Nunnery (Houston)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 209 overall, No. 11 safety (plays linebacker for UF)

Transfer portal rating: 88.00

Class of 2019 ranking: No. 121 safety

High school rating: 82.57

Quotable: “I think we got really, really lucky with Manny Nunnery, who transferred in from Houston. He is a super athlete and a really, really bright football player. Coach Belk did a great job with him. So there’s a kid who can run, understands coverages and can play a lot of different positions. I’ve been really impressed with him.” — Gators inside linebackers coach Jay Bateman

S RJ Moten (Michigan)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 221 overall, No. 14 safety

Transfer portal rating: 88.00

Class of 2020 ranking: No. 226 overall, No. 19 safety

High school rating: 91.27

Quotable: “I wanted to see how they view me, see if that lined up. I needed some new air, a new breath. Just hearing that they’re excited about me. They wanted to show love and that’s what it is. They said in the safety room it’s two sophomores and two freshmen. I was like, ‘They’re young.’ I will be a good addition to the room. I know they will bring the best out of me, and I’ll bring the best out of them.” — RJ Moten

QB Graham Mertz (Wisconsin)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 224 overall, No. 23 quarterback

Transfer portal rating: 88.00

Class of 2019 ranking: No. 57 overall, No. 4 quarterback

High school rating: 95.33

Quotable: “I think Graham’s been impressive. He’s an experienced player, you know, he’s comfortable. He’s started 32 games at a really established program with high expectations. And there’s no price you can put on that, you know. And I will tell you that his approach since the first day he’s been here is what you would want from a quarterback. You know, it’s almost as if you’re acquiring a free agent in the National Football League that’s an experienced, veteran player, he’s learning the new system. His approach has been what you would want.” — Gators coach Billy Napier

OL Damien George (Alabama)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 241 overall, No. 23 offensive tackle

Transfer portal rating: 88.00

High school ranking: No. 337 overall, No. 35 offensive tackle

High school rating: 89.67

Quotable: “He’ll stay outside for us. We’ve got inside guys, but right now obviously we’ve signed him for a tackle, and we need depth there also as well, so he’ll stay out there.” — Gators offensive coordinator Rob Sale

OL Kiyaunta Goodwin (Kentucky)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 268 overall, No. 27 offensive tackle

Transfer portal rating: 88.00

Class of 2022 ranking: No. 55 overall, No. 6 offensive tackle

High school rating: 95.92

Quotable: “His length and size, it’s hard to find those guys. You gotta get them. Everybody’s working hard in recruiting to get them, to get them on your team, especially guys like him, so he’s long. He’s played left, he can play right, so it’s good to have guys like that. That’s what we need to get, more of them.” — Gators offensive coordinator Rob Sale

DL Cam Jackson (Memphis)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 275 overall, No. 10 defensive lineman

Transfer portal rating: 88.00

Class of 2020 ranking: No. 75 defensive lineman

High school rating: 85.70

Quotable: “He can move. He’s very, very limber, I mean he can move. He’s got great balance, strong at the point of attack. For a guy that’s (almost) 6-foot-7, he can move. He’s pretty impressive.” — Gators co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Sean Spencer

DL Caleb Banks (Louisville)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 32 defensive lineman

Transfer portal rating: 86.00

High school ranking: No. 97 EDGE

High school rating: 84.10

Quotable: “Tremendous athlete. I mean, he’s 6-foot-6. I think he’s over 300 pounds, he can bend, he can touch the ground easy. He’s a basketball player. He’s a natural athlete. He’s exciting to watch right now. He moves like a little guy.” — Gators co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Sean Spencer

OL Lyndell Hudson (FIU)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 45 offensive tackle

Transfer portal rating: 86.00

Class of 2018 ranking: No. 238 offensive tackle

High school rating: 76.82

Quotable: “When you’re 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds and you’ve played a lot of college football you have ability. A lot of people don’t know, he played Texas Tech a couple years ago. He’s played against good competition. Two years ago, he was one of the most highly rated tackles in the country. And then he got banged up. He’s 100 percent now. I want to say he had a herniated disk in his back. But again, he’s 100 percent. I saw him move around and he’s doing well.” — Chris Sands, head coach at Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie

RB Cam Carroll (Tulane)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 50 running back

Transfer portal rating: 86.00

Class of 2018 ranking: No. 138 running back

High school rating: 77.32

Quotable: “He’s got athletic ability, can move around well. Smart. He’s been playing football for half a decade. So, he understands the game. He’s just got to try to get the two terminologies across in his head right now. So, he’s got to get that out of the way, just focus on what we’re doing and he should be able to help us somewhere down the line.” — Gators running backs coach Jabbar Juluke

LB Teradja Mitchell (Ohio State)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 76 linebacker

Transfer portal rating: 85.00

Class of 2018 ranking: No. 35 overall, No. 5 linebacker

High school rating: 95.33

Quotable: “I think one of Teradja’s strengths is he is intelligent. I think he has experience as a player. He’s played for multiple coordinators in his career so he’s learning a new system. That’s nothing new for him but I do think that translates. He’s articulate, he’s very well spoken, and he does a great job communicating.” — Gators coach Billy Napier

LB Deuce Spurlock (Michigan)

Transfer portal ranking: No. 92 linebacker

Transfer portal rating: 85.00

Class of 2022 ranking: No. 45 athlete

High school rating: 84.80

Quotable: “Deuce Spurlock is a guy that we tried to recruit a year ago. We had a really good relationship with him and his family early on in the recruiting process, going all the way back to Louisiana. 6-foot ½, 225 pounds, really athletic player. Four years to play.” — Gators coach Billy Napier
