Bag of Bones: Georgia working to host regional and beyond

Georgia head baseball coach Wes Johnson spoke with the media on Wednesday ahead of the final series of the regular season.
The Bulldogs will host Texas A&M on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Foley Field before heading to Hoover for the SEC Tournament next week. There is a lot at stake this weekend for Georgia. The Bulldogs are in a three-way tie for the fourth seed and with some help, they could be as high as the third seed for the SEC Tournament.
Johnson hit on a few key pieces of news and notes ahead of the big series in Athens. We will have more coverage ahead of those games this weekend, but here are some of the key news and notes from Johnson’s presser ahead of the Texas A&M series.
Georgia baseball Bag of Bones
- Georgia first baseman Ryland Zaborowski ‘trending’ toward returning as a hitter at least. Zaborowski suffered an elbow injury against Oklahoma during the last homestand. Zaborowski can’t throw, but he can still hit. He has done some batting practice. Johnson noted that he ‘looked good’ but he wants to wait and see how he responds before re-inserting. Zaborowski is likely doubtful for game one but could be a ‘game-time’ decision on Friday and Saturday.
- Georgia is going with a rotation shift. They will go with Dylan Goldstein on Thursday, Brian Curley on Friday and Leighton Finley on Saturday. Kolton Smith will return to the bullpen.
- Georgia is bracing for a ‘desperate’ Texas A&M team that sits 14th in the league and is working to try and make an impression to get into the NCAA Tournament. Johnson believes the Aggies’ lineup is dangerous due to their power. Five balls hit in Missouri would have been home runs in Foley Field.
- Players have been out of school for over a week. It has allowed for them to spend more time together as a team and has seen them doing extra work on the field on their own. The Bulldogs locked in on winning in Omaha, not just reaching Omaha.
- Georgia not looking at last year at all because much of the roster is different.
