Charles Davis predicts Travon Walker off the board with first selection in 2022 draft

Charles Davis released his first mock draft on Tuesday, and for Georgia fans, there’s a familiar face atop the draft board. Davis has Travon Walker going first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars over Aidan Hutchinson, who many have projected as the top defensive lineman.

“Surprise! Many expect this pick to be Michigan edge Aidan Hutchinson, and understandably so. But in this case, the Jags project that this young man’s NFL numbers will exceed his college ones,” Davis wrote. “Gifted with great ability and a fine work ethic, Walker will pair well with Josh Allen.”

As Davis points out, Walker’s college production wasn’t off the charts quite like Hutchinson. The Thomaston, Ga. native only had 37 tackles with 6.0 quarterback sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss in 2021 as compared to Hutchinson’s 62 tackles, Michigan program-record 14.0 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss. However, the Combine numbers favor Walker (4.51 40 yard dash for Walker as compared to a 4.74 Hutchinson) which has some teams reportedly leaning his way.

Walker isn’t the only Bulldog that Davis has predicted to be picked in the first round though. He has defensive linemen Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt going back to back right in the middle of things at No. 14 to the Baltimore Ravens and No. 15 to the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Not only did Davis put on the show of shows at the combine, but he fits what the Ravens covet from their defensive interior players: speed and playmaking ability, both of which are crucial in an AFC North that loves to run the ball,” he wrote.

“The Eagles re-signed Fletcher Cox to a one-year deal, but adding his eventual replacement now is an excellent idea,” Davis added on Wyatt.

Noticeably absent however was inside linebacker Nakobe Dean, winner of the 2021 Butkus Award as the nation’s best linebacker. Davis projected Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd to the New England Patriots at No. 21 overall as the only linebacker in the first round.
