Georgia Baseball’s season may be over, but the recognition continues to come in for Charlie Condon. Already a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, Condon earned Second-Team All-American status by Collegiate Baseball. Furthermore, Condon was invited to summer training camp for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

A 6-foot-6, 215-pound native of Marietta, Condon will compete for a spot on the final 26-man team. Camp features 56 non-draft eligible college players where they’ll play a four-game intrasquad series June 25-28 in Cary, N.C. at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Should he make the team, Condon will travel with the squad June 30-July 12 to play against Chinese Taipei and Japan. Former Georgia players to make the touring team include pitcher Cris Carpenter (1987), pitcher Dave Fleming (1989), pitcher Brian Powell (1994), catcher Clint Sammons (2002), shortstop Kyle Farmer (2012), pitcher Robert Tyler (2015) and pitcher Cole Wilcox (2019). Georgia pitcher Jaden Woods, who is draft eligible this year, participated in last year’s USA Collegiate National Team summer training camp.

Condon was named SEC Freshman of the Year after an outstanding redshirt freshman campaign this spring. He captured the Triple Crown for Georgia, leading the team in batting average (.386), home runs (25) and RBI (67). His 25 home runs ranks among the highest in the country and broke an SEC freshman record that had stood since 2006.

During the season, Condon had a 37-game on base streak and 24-game hit streak. He hit a home run in each of Georgia’s 10 SEC series and leads the league for home runs in conference games with 16.

Condon’s 25 home runs ranks only behind Gordon Beckham from the 2008 season when the Bulldogs reached the College World Series Finals. That team played 71 games. Condon and company only played 56.

Condon was also selected to the All-SEC Second Team and named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, one of 25 across the country for the award that goes annually to the top amateur baseball player in the U.S.

“Charlie is a hard worker and obviously very talented, and he comes to work every single day,” former Georgia head coach Scott Stricklin said about Condon. “You look at him, and he’s got the skill set. He was 195 pounds last year when he got to campus. The idea to redshirt him last year was like a football mentality with an offensive lineman where you put some weight and strength on him and see where he goes. If you would’ve told me he was going to hit 25 home runs, I don’t know if I would’ve believed that. He did everything in the last 365 days to prepare for today. He’s a great kid and deserves it.”

The Bulldogs missed the NCAA Tournament and moved on from head coach Scott Stricklin after the 2023 season, his tenth with the program. Going 29-27 overall and 11-19 in the SEC, its the fewest wins in a season for Georgia since 2017 when the Bulldogs finished below .500 but with the same record in SEC play. The last time UGA finished with fewer wins in the league was in 2015.
