One of Georgia’s top in-state targets is officially a member of its 2026 class. Houston County (Warner Robins, Ga.) safety Jordan Smith was announced as a signee at XXX on Wednesday. He’s the third safety to sign with the Bulldogs.

At 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Smith is the nation’s No. 89 overall prospect per the Rivals Industry Rankings, a weighted average of all three websites that publish recruiting rankings. He’s the No. 10 safety in America and the No. 9 player in Georgia.

The middle Georgia standout has been committed to Georgia since the spring. He made the call in May and hasn’t wavered since.

“I connected so well with the coaches,” Smith told DawgsHQ. “Everything they have going on, and I mean, the way the guys interact, they really hit me up. The way the players, the things coaches will say, boom, the guys pick up on, it’s like, it is all like that fast. I want to be around that, I want to be around those types of guys.”

Georgia beat out a long list of potential suitors to land the play-making safety. Smith had almost two dozen reported offers from the likes of Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, and Florida State, among others. He’s one of at least three safeties who have either signed with Georgia on Wednesday or are expected to do so, joining Tyriq Green (Buford) and Zech Fort (IMG Academy). Those two players are also also four-star prospect.

Georgia has had a number of defensive backs go in the first round since Kirby Smart became head coach in 2016. Two Bulldog safeties, Lewis Cine (2022) and Malaki Starks (2025) have been taken in the first round have gone in the first round in the past four years.

Prior to the signing of Smith, Georgia secured signatures from a pair of other four-star safeties. Buford standout Tyriq Green went first as the Bulldogs held off a late push from Texas A&M. IMG Academy defender Zech Fort came next, a long-time UGA pledge.
