G Day 2022 is in the books and in our podcast catalogue.

I shot from the hip with my immediate takeaways from G Day as another UGA spring football installment came to a close.

Go ahead and follow Dawg Walk Talk to listen to this breakdown, and a more in-depth breakdown later in the week!

G Day 2022 Storyline of the day: Arik Gilbert

My biggest takeaway was the return of Arik Gilbert.

It’s only a spring game. Kirby Smart said he had a lot to work on still.

But Gilbert’s two touchdown receptions made up three of his catches for 49 yards. His other two targets drew pass interference penalties.

Kirby Smart pointed out how proud he was to see Gilbert’s return. He also mentioned he had a couple blown assignments in run-blocking.

Even if Gilbert isn’t all the way back, health-wise or performance-wise, G Day 2022 was a massive step in the right direction.

We can’t break down G Day without talking about the quarterbacks

I wrote in our G Day Bold Predictions before the game that Georgia’s quarterbacks would receive the most attention and scrutiny – fairly or not.

Of course, Carson Beck looked better than Stetson Bennett did overall.

He had a smooth delivery and no turnovers.

Bennett, on the other hand, had three touchdowns, two interceptions and multiple batted passes.

It was a mixed bag for Bennett, and Beck wasn’t perfect either.

Bennett is still Georgia’s QB1, according to Smart, who said he doesn’t look at stats. It’s more about decision-making.

“I don’t have to (announce that Stetson Bennett is our starting QB), Smart said.

Our team knows that Stetson is our quarterback.”

Third takeaway: Georgia’s tight end group as a whole is unfair

Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington couldn’t play.

Arik Gilbert and freshman early-enrollee Oscar Delp would probably start, or at least be a one-two punch, on several SEC teams.

Delp finished with seven catches for 91 yards, and really displayed the ability to make catches for contested balls.

However Todd Monken wants to use the tight ends, it will probably work.

There will be a lot of incredibly talented ones to pick from on Georgia’s roster in 2022.
