Gameday Primer: Georgia set to host top 5 Ole Miss

Athens, Ga – Georgia has the premier match-up of the weekend in the backyard on Saturday. The Bulldogs are hosting the No. 5-ranked Ole Miss Rebels in Athens.
ESPN’s College Gameday is set up at Myers Quad this morning. Luke Combs is set to perform on set tomorrow, following a pop-up show at the Georgia Theatre on Friday night.
It is a big game atmosphere. That is what Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has asked for inside Sanford Stadium on Saturday.
Smart issued a challenge to the Georgia fan base on Monday in his weekly press conference.
“We need the best atmosphere we’ve ever had in Sanford Stadium,” Smart told reporters on Monday.
It is Ole Miss’ explosive offense and its ability to effectively communicate under head coach Lane Kiffin that also needs to be disrupted.
I’ve got a lot of respect for Lane (Kiffin), he does an incredible job,” Smart said. “He’s probably one of the best things he does is in-game coaching, having coached with him and watched him for years. He has an impact on the quarterback, the offensive play, and the ability to communicate with the quarterback. Whether it’s by headset or by sideline, he does a great job of getting the quarterback’s attention and getting them in the right place based on looks. He probably does that better than anybody else in the country.”

“So, the challenge has been issued for our fan base to be extremely difficult for them to communicate and do things offensively that they do, especially at home and sometimes on the road when it’s not the right environment,” Smart continued.

Big Picture
Georgia enters the game with one SEC loss already on the docket. Ole Miss is unbeaten. Georgia needs this game to continue to keep pace with unbeatens Texas A&M and Ole Miss, as well as Alabama, which owns the tiebreaker after besting the Bulldogs earlier this season.
If Georgia were to win, it would be the Bulldogs’ highest-ranked win of the season to this point.
For Ole Miss, a win pads the resume and begins to separate from the growing group of teams with SEC losses. The Rebels only have one more game with an opponent that is ranked, following this week’s matchup with Georgia.
