Georgia announces two new starters on right side of OL

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia is all set for its week-matchup with FCS opponent Austin Peay, and it appears as if two Bulldogs will be making the first starts of their careers. Redshirt freshman Michael Uini was announced as the starter at right guard. Fellow redshirt freshman Jahzare Jackson was also announced as a starter at right tackle.
Both Uini and Jackson worked with the No. 1 offensive line during pregame warmup. It marks a change from week one when Juan Gaston became the first Georgia true freshman to start and opener on the offensive line since Andrew Thomas in 2017. Earnest Greene got the start for Georgia at right tackle, his first at that position but his 24th career start.
Both Gaston and Greene were injured in the Bulldogs’ season-opening win against Marshall. Gaston suffered minor knee and ankle injuries on the second series of the game. Greene came out with back stiffness. Neither played after Georgia’s second possession.
With Greene exiting the game, redshirt sophomore Bo Hughley stepped in at right tackle. Uini and Daniel Calhoun, also a redshirt freshman, carried the load at right guard. Both of those players competed with Gaston for the starting job this preseason.

Uini signed with Georgia in the 2024 class. He finished that cycle ranked as the nation’s 110 overall prospect per the Rivals Industry Rankings, a weighted average that includes all three websites that publish recruiting rankings. He was the nation’s No. 8 offensive tackle and the No. 17 player in the state of Texas.
Jackson was a late addition for Georgia in that same class. After playing basketball only for his entire basketball career and entering the NFL Draft, the 6-foot-10 345-pound lineman decided to pivot to football. Georgia beat out Florida and a number of other programs for his signature. Jackson appeared in all 14 games last season, seeing some action as a reserve lineman but mostly one the field goal and extra-point protection units.
