Georgia baseball gives Wes Johnson significant pay bump with extension

Georgia head baseball coach Wes Johnson got another significant pay increase as part of his new extension. The Bulldog head coach will now make $1.3 million annually after agreeing to an extension with the university last week. That extension will take him through the 2031 season.
He has almost doubled his salary from his first season at Georgia. Johnson earned $1 million in 2025. That was an increase from the season before when he was making $702,000. The former LSU pitching coach, who also spent time in Major League Baseball with the Minnesota Twins, has taken Georgia to the NCAA tournament as a No. 7 overall seed in back to back seasons.
“We are excited to announce a contract extension for Wes, Angie and their family,” Brooks said. “It has been incredible watching our baseball program thrive over the past two seasons. Wes is without a doubt one of the elite head baseball coaches in the country, and his commitment to winning at the highest levels is surpassed only by his dedication to making everyone around him better each and every day. We are excited about the future under his leadership.”
Johnson was mentioned prominently in the Mississippi State’s coaching search. The Bulldogs fired their coach earlier this season and the program has one of the richest traditions of any program in the country.

“I’d like to thank Josh Brooks, President Jere Morehead, and all our fans for their commitment to Georgia Baseball,” Johnson said. “We have received tremendous support from day one, and that is evident from the $45 million renovation that was completed this year that is vital for our player development, recruiting and the overall fan experience at Foley Field.”
Georgia dropped its opening game of the 2025 SEC Tournament but it still earned a coveted top eight national seed. The Bulldogs are hosting Duke, Oklahoma State, and Binghamton in the Athens regional starting this Friday. Should they win the four-team regional, Johnson and company will get to host again in the Super Regional. They will take on the winner of the Oxford Regional that includes Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky and Murray State.
