Georgia huddles up before the start of a NCAA baseball game against Arkansas in Athens, Ga., on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Georgia’s 4-0 week and sweep of SEC bottom dweller Missouri seems to have moved the needly for at least a couple of publications. Baseball America now has the Bulldogs ranked No. 1 in the nation and D1 Baseball has moved th them from No. 9 to No. 6.

The SEC has the nation’s top three teams per baseball America with Texas sitting at No. 2 and Arkansas at No. 3. The Razorbacks swept the Longhorns over the weekend in Fayetteville. Georgia was swept at Texas earlier this season but it took two of three from Arkansas in Athens.

North Carolina and Auburn, in that order, round out the top five. Georgia swept the Tigers in the Classic City earlier this year.

Seeing as how Georgia isn’t exactly far removed from a 10-game stretch of SEC play that saw it go 2-8, the move to No. 1 might seem to make little sense. One look at the RPI, however, shows Georgia in the top spot. Texas is ranked No. 2, Vanderbilt is No. 3, Auburn is No. 4, and Arkansas is No. 5. The Bulldogs have played each of those teams to a 5-7 record.

The Bulldogs’ schedule has softened some since a 19-game stretch where it played 17 ranked teams. It played eight of those games away from home, winning just one of them.

After getting to play Oklahoma at home and Mizzou, which is now 0-24 in the SEC, on the road, the Bulldogs will travel to Alabama this weekend. The Crimson Tide are No. 14 per D1 Baseball and No. 25 per Baseball America.

The Bulldogs will finish the regular season at home against Texas A&M. The Aggies were ranked No. 1 in the preseason but have since struggled in SEC play, going 10-14. They’re still dangerous, as illustrated by a couple of series of late. Texas A&M has taken two of three at Arkansas and at home vs. LSU in the past three weeks. It also dropped all three of its games at arch rival Texas in between those series.
