The Tuesday hits keep coming for Georgia basketball, as On3’s Matt Zenitz reports that freshman guard Christian Wright will be hitting the transfer portal.

Wright joins earlier departures Cam McDowell and Tyrone Baker, both of whom entered the portal earlier on Tuesday. Dalen Ridgnal announced his intentions to transfer from the program last week.

Wright, a 6-foot-3 freshman out of Roswell, Georgia’s Cambridge High School and post-graduate program The Skill Factory, saw time in all 32 contests of the Bulldogs’ 2021-22 season.

He averaged 5.3 points per game to go along with an average of 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Wright was also responsible for five blocks and twenty steals in the campaign, as well.

Georgia also landed a player from the transfer portal with the addition of Longwood transfer Justin Hill last week. Hill averaged 14.0 points per game for the Lancers on their way to making the NCAA Tournament. As it stands right now, the Bulldogs expect seven scholarship players (Jailyn Ingram, Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Oquendo, Tyron McMillan, Josh Taylor, Noah Baumann and Braelen Bridges) plus walk-on Jaxon Etter to return from the 2021-22 roster.

Georgia Basketball taking a new turn

Turnover was expected for the Bulldogs after the firing of Tom Crean and subsequent hiring of Mike White.

White joined the program in March and was hired away from the University of Florida.

“I am beyond excited for the opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program at the University of Georgia,” White said. “President Jere W. Morehead and Athletics Director Josh Brooks are united in a strong vision for UGA Basketball which resonated with me deeply. They believe, as I do, in developing our young men as students, athletes and leaders, as well as providing them with the support they need to be successful. I believe in the limitless future of Georgia Basketball.”

“I am extraordinarily grateful to the leadership of Scott Stricklin and to the entire Florida Athletics staff for an amazing experience during my tenure,” White continued. “Thank you to each and every one of our current and former players.  Your hard work, commitment and dedication was and continues to be an inspiration. I will cherish our relationships forever. In addition, the Gainesville community has been wonderful to my family and I. We are truly thankful for our time at the University of Florida. To the Georgia Basketball family, friends and fans, I’m ready to get to work. Go Dawgs!”
