Georgia brings in ex-Stanford pitcher Matt Scott via transfer portal

Georgia baseball has reached into the transfer portal for a fourth player since its season ended last week. Matt Scott is joining Wes Johnson and company after spending the past three seasons at Stanford. He made his decision known via Instagram.
“Looking forward to the next step,” Scott said on social media. “Thank you to the Georgia staff for believing in me! #GoDawgs“
Scott is coming off a down season for the Cardinal after entering the year with high expectations. He was the team’s “ace” coming into the season but posted the highest earned-run average of his career at 6.02. He gave Stanford 11 starts and 52.1 innings where he gave up 61 hits and walked 22 batters. He did an excellent job of keeping the ball in the yard, allowing just four home runs. He went 5-2 on the year.
Scott’s ERA was slightly better as a junior when he finished the season with a 5.96 mark. He was a bit of a strikeout machine, recording 103 punchouts in 80 innings. Scott amassed a record of 4-10 in 19 appearances and 15 starts. It was the last season of the Pac-12.

His best numbers came in his first year when he was a second-team Freshman All-American per Perfect Game. He went 5-5 on the year with a 5.10 ERA. He appeared in 24 games with 12 starts, giving the Cardinal 67 innings. He allowed 59 hits and 37 walks while giving up 10 home runs.
Scott is the third pitcher Georgia has added via the transfer portal. One of those players, Kenny Ishikawa, is a two-way player. He’s joining the UGA program by way of Seattle University and Asia University in Japan. He posted a 4.20 ERA last season.
The Bulldogs also added Grant Edwards from University of New Orleans. The Louisiana native was the program’s Friday night starter in 2025, posting an ERA of 4.23 while striking out 92 batters and walking 29.
