Two weeks have passed in our Georgia Bulldogs Countdown to Kickoff meaning we are now just 85 days away from the start of the 2022 football season with Kirby Smart’s Georgia team taking on Oregon in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. on September 3rd. Today in our countdown of the days until the big game, DawgsHQ takes a look at Georgia’s 1985 win over No. 1 ranked Florida as we are 85 days out.

The Gators entered the 1985 contest on a roll. They were undefeated at the time – coming off of an emotional win in their rivalry against Auburn – and ranked No. 1 in the nation for the first time in school history. That didn’t last long though as Georgia had a pair of freshmen – Keith Henderson and Tim Worley – rush for over 100 yards each on the day on the way to a 24-3 victory for the Bulldogs. In the aftermath, Georgia fans that made the trip to Jacksonville tore down the goalposts. A video version of that full game can be found below on YouTube.

As Wes wrote earlier in the series – and as most of you Georgia fans know already – the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail party just means more. That’s especially the case when the Bulldogs beat the No. 1 team in the country in the process – which they’ve only done a handful of times in program history – as they did in 1985, an accomplishment which we recognize for day No. 85 on the Georgia Bulldogs countdown to kickoff series on DawgsHQ.
