With 49 days until the Georgia Bulldogs meet Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks, we’re looking back on a game that was a coming-out party for many last season.

That was the second game of the season with the Bulldogs playing host to the UAB Blazers.

JT Daniels was injured coming off of the Clemson game, so once again the Bulldogs turned back to Stetson Bennett.

While the Blazers were clearly overmatched in all regards, Bennett was spectacular on the day, in what may be considered the ‘Wally Pipp’ moment of the season.

Bennett was 10-of-12 on the day for 288 yards and five touchdowns, and the Bulldogs didn’t look back after the September 11 contest.

Three of his completions were to freshman tight end Brock Bowers, who put the nation on notice in Georgia’s first game of the season against Clemson.

Versus UAB, however, he emerged as the machine fans came to expect the rest of the season.

Bowers posted three receptions for 107 total yards, good for an average of 35.7 yard per catch, and two touchdowns.

Channing Tindall’s seven tackles led the team, with future No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Travon Walker following in the second spot with another 4.

In terms of looks into the future, though, there may have been no one who showed a bigger glimpse than Jamon Dumas-Johnson.

His late interception return for a touchdown seemed to be a precursor for what the Bulldogs could expect moving into the 2022 season.

While UAB may not have been the biggest challenge, it was an early look into what would be a special season by some key contributors.

The final score was 56-7, good for a margin of victory of 49 points.
