Georgia falls to Oklahoma in game one of weekend series

Athens, Ga – Georgia’s skid on the baseball diamond continued on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs suffered an 8-6 defeat to Oklahoma on Thursday night in game one of the three-game series in Athens.
The Bulldogs have fallen on hard times. They have lost five in a row. Vanderbilt swept Georgia in Nashville over the weekend. The Bulldogs fell to Clemson on Tuesday night.
A pitching duel took place for the first half of Thursday’s game. Georgia starter Brian Curley went five innings. Curley allowed two runs, struck out four batters in his five innings. He allowed four hits.
Oklahoma starter Kyson Witherspoon got the better of the battle. Witherspoon went seven innings. He struck out eight batters. He only allowed a single run, which was a Tre Phelps’ solo home run.

The Georgia offense has struggled in the last few games. The Bulldogs were shut out by Clemson. Vanderbilt held the Georgia offense to 10 runs over the weekend, seven of which came in game two of the series on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs’ bats came to life in the eighth inning to cut an 8-1 Oklahoma lead to 8-5. Georgia made another run in the bottom of the ninth. They scored one run and brought Slate Alford to the plate with a man on. Alford ultimately struck out to close the game.
The Bulldogs will be back at it on Friday at Foley Field. Game two of the series moved up to 1 p.m. There is a forecast for inclement weather on Friday evening.
