Georgia football wrapped up day one of its fall camp, and the Dawg Walk Talk Podcast rolled tape as soon as we could. Or ‘hit record,’ I should say.

We don’t use tape anymore. Just an expression. There’s newer and mostly better equipment out there, of course.

The Dawgs have new equipment out on the field, too. New players. New coaches. Is it better? That’s yet to be seen.

It’ll be really hard to be better than the group that just shipped out for the NFL. But Kirby Smart, of course, isn’t into comparisons.

He also isn’t into complacency. And he definitely isn’t into talking about the Oregon Ducks and Dan Lanning just yet.

You can read all of my thoughts on Kirby Smart’s first press conference of the fall right here.

But Palmer Thombs and I spoke about it for free on this week’s show.

Most importantly, we try to figure out the meaning and the right way to say Kirby Smart’s newest mantra for this year’s Georgia football team:

‘Locked in and locked up.’ or is it ‘locked out’? Whatever it is, Stetson Bennett and the Buzz Cut Boys are all about it.

We followed up our assessments of Georgia football’s media sessions with some day-one practice observations

Kirby Smart granted the media 15 minutes of practice viewing time on Thursday.

Palmer watched a lot of defense.

Our intern, Jack Mathison, watched some of the running backs. I watched a lot of the receivers and some quarterback work.

Again, you’ll have to go behind the paywall to read about everything we saw.

But Palmer and I did discuss some of our findings for free on the show.

Once we put a pin in our ramblings about linebackers and wideout drills, stay tuned to hear Kirby Smart’s full opening press conference, and a player interview with senior safety Christopher Smith.

If that doesn’t whet your whistle, we have more player interviews from camp on the DawgsHQ YouTube channel.

Tight end Darnell Washington, defensive lineman Zion Logue and offensive lineman Warren McClendon all shared their thoughts on the upcoming season, and just how hard it is to be a freshman on day one of a Georgia football camp.

These guys sound locked in to me. And locked out. Will this year’s team be better than the 2021 National Champs?

I don’t know yet. Kirby Smart doesn’t even know that. But he is doing everything he can to make sure the 22 who start don’t fall victim to the ‘C’ word:

Complacency.

We post these shows to our YouTube, as well, so don’t miss out on that.
