Georgia’s most experienced offensive lineman is doubtful for its showdown with Alabama on Saturday. The SEC’s official student-athlete availability report came out on Wednesday, listing redshirt junior right tackle Earnest Greene as doubtful for Saturday’s game.

Juan Gaston, a true freshman, is not listed on the report. The same can be said for sophomore tailback Dwight Phillips, who exited the Tennessee game on September 13 with a foot injury. Three Georgia players are listed as out — Ethan Barbour (tight end), Thomas Blackshear (receiver), and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Malachi Toliver.

Greene started the season opener vs. Marshall but played just two offensive series and 19 plays total before exiting due to a back injury. According to sources, it was the first time Greene has battled back issues since the 2022 season when he had surgery prior to the season and missed the entire year.

After missing the Austin Peay game, Greene returned to the starting lineup against Tennessee and struggled. He was replaced by Michael Uini, who played almost all of the second and third quarters. Georgia turned to Bo Hughley in the fourth quarter as Uini couldn’t find his way in pass proteciton.

The California native started all 14 games at left tackle in the 2023 season, surrendering just one sack and eight pressures. He then started the first nine games of the 2024 season at left tackle before a shoulder stinger became too tough to manage.

Gaston started the first game of his college career vs. Marshall, but he, too, exited the game after just 19 plays with relatively minor shoulder and knee injuries. He missed Georgia’s win over Austin Peay, but traveled to Tennessee and played in a rotational role against the Volunteers. He sustained an injury to his other ankle in that contest and could not finish.

Barbour suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Georgia’s win over Austin Peay on September 6. Blackshear hasn’t played since week one due to an undisclosed injury. Toliver has not played in a game this year but did travel with the team to Knoxville. He suffered a high-ankle sprain early in preseason camp and underwent tight rope surgery.

Meanwhile, Alabama appears to be getting a pair of major contributors back for its SEC opener vs. Georgia. Defensive lineman Tim Keenan, who has missed the first three games due to a high-ankle sprain, is listed as probably. Tailback Jam Miller is not listed on the injury report after having surgery to remedy a dislocated collarbone prior to the start of the season. Bama lists linebacker Jah Marion-Latham and defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman out for the UGA game. Tight end Danny Lewis Jr. is listed as probable.
