Georgia football injury report: Freshman wideout Talyn Taylor to miss Kentucky game

Georgia wideout Talyn Taylor will definitely miss the team’s week-five matchup with Kentucky. Per a statement from UGA Sports Information, Taylor sustained an upper body injury in Thursday’s practice. The injury will require surgery, and Taylor is expected to make a full recovery.
He was listed as “out” on the SEC’s student-athlete availability report on Thursday night, the second of the week. Taylor has two catches for 28 yards on the season and has served as a gunner on Georgia’s punt team. Both of those catches came in Georgia’s week two win over Austin Peay.
“Talyn’s deal was tough, but Talyn will grow from it,” Kirby Smart said of the freshman receiver after the Alabama game, where Taylor had a crucial drop in the third quarter. “He’s a tough, competitive kid, he practices his butt off. People don’t give him enough credit for, he’s changed our punt team in terms of, he’s replaced an Arian and a Dom as a gunner and been really elite. Every time we’ve called his number, he’s answered it. He’s going to continue to do that. I mean, the guy’s a worker. I told him that, look, we’re going to come back at you and continue to use you, and just keep getting better. That’s all you can do, keep getting better.”
The 6-foot, 190-pound pass catcher was a five-star in the 2025 class. He finished the cycle ranked as the nation’s No. 23 overall prospect per the Rivals Industry Rankings, a weighted average that includes all three websites that publish recruiting rankings. He was the nation’s No. 4 wideout and the No. 1 player in Illinois.
The Bulldogs beat out the likes of Ohio State, Ole Miss, and myriad of other programs to land Taylor. He committed to Georgia in June of 2024, just a couple of weeks after taking his official visits. He shut his recruitment down, for the most part, opting to not take any official visits after. UGA did, however, have to hold off late pushes from other programs in the 11th our to secure his signature.

Taylor enrolled early at Georgia, joining the team in January and going throw practices for the team’s College Football Playoff matchup with Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. He also went through spring drills with the team and has appeared in all four games this season.
Georgia is also without fourth-year junior offensive lineman Earnest Greene, freshman wideout Thomas Blackshear, freshman tight end Ethan Barbour, and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Malachi Toliver.
Greene played the first 19 plays of the 2025 season but hasn’t been full-speed since. He exited that game with a back injury, missed week two, but started at Tennessee. Greene was clearly less than 100 percent in Georgia’s thrilling 44-41 win on Rocky Top. He didn’t play against Alabama.
