Georgia Football Injury Update: Kirby Smart gives latest on CJ Allen, Chauncey Bowens

Georgia took down Texas on Saturday by a score of 35-10, and it did so without the help of CJ Allen for most of the way. Allen exited fairly early in the second quarter with a knee injury and did not return. Redshirt freshman running back Chauncey Bowens also went down in the fourth quarter and did not finish the game.
Kirby Smart spoke with the Georgia beat on Monday, where he was asked about both players.
“Yeah, he’ll be week-to-week,” Smart said of Allen, whose injury is not thought to be season-ending. “We’ll see when we can get him back.”
“He’ll be day-to-day,” Smart said of Bowens. “Hopefully we’ll get him back. I haven’t had a chance to see Chauncey yet but he was doing rehab this morning and had good reports from that, but don’t know much.”
Allen is Georgia’s leading tackler on the season. He has 78 total stops (40 solo), giving him 22 more than the next closest player. The Barnesville, Ga. native also has four games with double-digit tackles while leading the Bulldogs in tackles for loss, with seven, and sacks, with 3.5.

Sophomores Chris Cole and Justin Williams, both former five-star prospects, stepped in for Allen against Texas. Smart told reporters on Monday that Allen isn’t the only play-caller in that room and that Raylen Wilson, Chris Cole, and Justin Williams all wear the “green dot” which means they can get play calls from defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann.
Bowens is Georgia’s second-leading rusher on the year behind Nate Frazier. He has 94 carries for 493 yards and six touchdowns. He had a big game earlier this year against Alabama, carrying the football 12 times for 119 yards and a score. Bowens has also caught 13 passes for 80 yards.
The one-time Florida commitment helped Georgia put the Gators down earlier this month. He ripped off a 36-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give the Bulldogs a four-point lead. Since then, he has struggled a bit, gaining 47 yards on 15 carries in the two games since.
