Georgia football injury updates on Juan Gaston, Earnest Greene, and Daylen Everette

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia won its 2025 season opener without the services of senior cornerback Daylen Everette. It only got two series out of the right side of its offensive line with right guard Juan Gaston and right tackle Earnest Greene coming out after 19 plays.
Kirby Smart and company didn’t offer much detail after the game. Georgia also skipped its usual Monday press conference due to the Labor Day holiday. But the 10th-year head coach spoke on the injuries when he met with the media on Tuesday.
Everette is dealing with an ankle injury per Smart, who simply acknowledge that the senior cornerback was injured after the win over Marshall. He expects Everette to ramp things up some for Tuesday’s practice. He also said that Georgia is hoping to get Greene and Gaston, who are dealing with “lower extremity” injuries, back for week two.
Gaston, who became the first true freshman offensive lineman to start for Georgia in a season opener since 2017, exited the game after the Bulldogs second touchdown of the day. The starting right guard was rolled up on as Gunner Stockton kept a zone read and ran it 13 yards for a touchdown. Gaston walked off the field under his own power but never reentered the game.

Greene’s injury was less obvious but he, too, didn’t see action after the second series. He was replaced by Bo Hughley, who played the rest of the first-team snaps at right tackle. It wasn’t until later in the game that Georgia Bulldog Radio Network sideline reporter DJ Shockley revealed that he was out with a leg injury.

The California native made his first start at right tackle on Saturday. He had previously started 23 games at left tackle with 14 of those taking place in 2023 and nine more to start the 2024 season. A left shoulder injury sidelined him for three games to end the 2024 regular season.
Despite going through pregame warmup, Everette didn’t play at all in the season opener. It broke a string of 28 straight starts for the senior cornerback. Georgia turned to redshirt freshman Ellis Robinson and junior Daniel Harris to start against the Thundering Herd.
Georgia will be back at home next Saturday to take on Austin Peay. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and SECNetwork+.
