Georgia lost one of the top-rated prospects in its 2024 class on Monday and, as a result, it fell to No. 2 in the On3 Industry Ranking team standings. But Bulldog fans can take solace in the fact that Kirby Smart and company are in good position to fill that void in the class with another big time talent.

Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.) tight end Landen Thomas flipped his commitment from Georgia to Florida State to start the week. It came on the heels of Thomas visiting the Seminoles on Saturday rather than the G-Day spring scrimmage.

That would be a devastating loss for some programs but the Bulldogs, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, are in a good spot to replace Thomas with another big-time talent. According to the predictive feature, UGA has a big lead for Jaden Reddell (Raymore-Peculiar; Raymore, Mo.) Georgia holds 79.1 percent of the RPM followed by Alabama at 5.5 percent and Tennessee at 4.7 percent.

At 6-foot-4 230 pounds, Reddell is the nation’s No. 48 overall prospect and No. 2 tight end per the On3 Industry ranking. He’s the No. 3 player in Missouri. Thomas is the only tight end ranked higher.

If you look at the On3 stand-alone rankings, Reddell is the top-ranked tight end in the country. There he is ranked No. 22 overall and No. 3 in the show-me state.

“Jaden Reddell (No. 35) stuck out as we were evaluating the tight ends for the midseason 2024 On300 update. The Raymore (Mo.) Raymore-Peculiar product began his career as a receiver and has grown into a tight end prospect. The receiving ability is readily evident, as Reddell is having a very strong junior season catching the football. We see the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder break off some huge gains on catch-and-runs, showing natural ball skills and good play speed. He’s caught 36 passes for 716 yards and nine touchdowns in seven games thus far.” — On3 Scouting Journal.

Where Georgia stands at TE…

Georgia signed two tight ends in the 2023 class in Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin. Both were four-star prospects with Luckie finishing the cycle as the nation’s No. 8 tight end and Spurlin as the nation’s No. 2 tight end.

Luckie turned heads this spring and had three touchdowns in the Bulldogs first spring scrimmage last month. Spurlin missed the final 12 practices of spring with a broken collarbone.

Those two joined a group made up of Mackey Award-winning playmaker Brock Bowers and former four-star prospect Oscar Delp. Bowers is almost certainly gone after the 2023 season after leading Georgia in receiving in each of his first two years with the program. Delp is expected to be a much larger piece of the offense in 2023 after serving as the No. 3 tight end in 2022.
