Georgia goes cold without leading scorer in loss to A&M

Mike White’s Georgia Bulldogs were without their best player on Saturday night, and anybody watching could tell. The Bulldogs fell to Texas A&M 82-57 on the road in College Station.
Justin Hill got moved into the starting lineup without Terry Roberts and led the game in scoring. He finished the night with 20 points, followed shortly behind by Jabri Abdur-Rahim who had 18. However, the next closest Georgia players had seven, and the team’s second-leading scorer Kario Oquendo was only able to muster up two as the Bulldogs shot 5-for-31 from 3-point range and 17-for-56 from the field overall.
Georgia began the game by allowing a 15-2 run out of the gate. Then, after Mardez McBride and Jabri Abdur-Rahim got the score back to within single-digits, Texas A&M went on another long run, 13-0 this time to lead 28-7 13:15 into the game.
The Bulldogs once again did their best to make it somewhat competitive as Abdur-Rahim hit a pair of 3-pointers to go along with one from Justin Hill. That made it a 12-point contest. However, Texas A&M would go into the locker room leading by 16, 38-22, with Georgia having hit just four of its 19 attempts from 3-point range (21.1%) and 7-of-29 overall (24.1%).

Not much changed in the second half. Georgia’s longest scoring streak came in at eight points, but the Bulldogs were down 27 points at the time. Meanwhile, Texas A&M put together multiple runs of 5+ unanswered to keep Georgia at a distance. Abdur-Rahim and Hill both reached double-figures for the Bulldogs but it was far from enough to make things competitive. That’s because three Aggies finished in double-figures including Tyrece Radford and Henry Coleman with 15 each.
After playing its last two games on the road, Georgia returns home for three straight at Stegeman Coliseum. That starts on Tuesday with Ole Miss coming to town. The Bulldogs beat the Rebels 62-58 earlier this season in Oxford behind a strong second half from Kario Oquendo. The junior guard scored all 15 of his points after the break to lead all scorers in the game and lead Georgia to its first road win in almost two years.
Tip time on Tuesday is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, airing on the SEC Network.
