After a 12-1 season and an second SEC Championship in as many years, Georgia has landed two players on the AP All-American teams. Junior inside linebacker CJ Allen represents the Bulldogs on the first team while senior punter Brett Thorson made the second team.

Allen, a native of Barnesville, Ga., has played in 12 of 13 games this season, missing half of the win over Texas and all of the win over Charlotte with a knee injury. Still, he leads the team in tackles with 85 total. He’s first on the team in tackles for loss with eight and the Butkus Award finalist is second on the team in sacks with 3.5.

Allen also has four pass breakups and two forced fumbles on the year. He made news late last month when he returned to the playing field less than two weeks after undergoing surgery to trim his meniscus. He played 34 snaps in the Bulldogs’ win over Georgia Tech.

It’s Thorson’s second major honor in a matter of just a few days. He won the Ray Guy Award over the weekend, an honor that goes annually to the top punter in College Football. The Australian-born punter averaged over 45 yards per boot in 2025 with most of his season taking place less than a year removed from ACL surgery. He sustained that injury while making a tackle in Georgia’s win over Texas in the 2024 SEC Championship game.

Thorson has a standout performance in this year’s SEC title game, averaging 45.29 yards per kick and pinning Alabama inside its own 10-yard line three separate times. Thorson is in his fourth season as Georgia’s starting punter. He was also named to the coaches’ All-SEC team on the No. 1 squad, and honor he also held in the preseason.

Both players will be back in action on January 1, 2026 when Georgia plays in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The Bulldogs will take on the winner of a December 20 matchup between No. 6 Ole Miss and Tulane, the No. 11 seed in the College Football Playoff.
