ATLANTA, Ga. — It looks as if Georgia linebacker CJ Allen will be available when it takes on Georgia Tech at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. According to ABC sideline reporter Katie George, who spoke at halftime of the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State, Allen is going to give it a go against his in-state rival

“[CJ] had a procedure on his meniscus 11 days ago. They went in and cut the meniscus and removed a piece of it. Kirby Smart told us that in the past when he’s had players have that procedure, it usually takes them two to three weeks to recover,” George said. “The fact that Allen is ready to go after just 11 days post-procedure is pretty remarkable. He was adamant that he wanted to play in this rivalry game. Now, how many snaps and what his role is going to be is still up for question and debate.”

Allen suffered the knee injury in Georgia’s 35-10 win over Texas. It took place fairly early in the second quarter, and Allen did not return. UGA held the Longhorns to seven points after his exit, which came on a short field after a Gunner Stockton interception.

Despite not playing for the past six-plus quarters, Allen is Georgia’s leading tackler on the year. He has 78 stops (40 solo) and also leads the team in tackles for loss with 7.5. Allen has 3.5 sacks on the year, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

Chris Cole and Justin Williams stepped in for Allen when he was out. Cole led the Bulldogs in tackles against Texas. He had seven total, including a tackle for loss. Williams led the team in tackles against Charlotte with five, including a half tackle for loss.

Allen has extensive experience against this Georgia Tech offense. He has been a key figure in the middle of UGA’s defense in each of the past two matchups.
