Georgia OL Jahzare Jackson arrested on felony marijuana possession, multiple minor charges

A Georgia player expected to compete for playing time at offensive tackle has gotten himself into hot water with local law enforcement. Sophomore offensive lineman Jahzare Jackson has been arrested on felony possession of marijuana (more than an ounce) as well as a few other misdemeanors. Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald was the first to report.
According to the Athens-Clarke County jail log, Jackson was also charged with possession and using drug-related objects, possession of marijuana under one ounce, and holding a wireless device while driving. The arrest took place on Wednesday of this week and he was booked into jail at 11:50 p.m. ET. He was bonded out of the Athens-Clarke County jail roughly four and a half hours later. That bond was set at $5,030. The felony possession charge accounted for $5,000 of that amount.
The 6-foot-10, 342-pound lineman was a late addition to Georgia’s No. 2 ranked 2024 recruiting class. When he signed with UGA, Jackson hadn’t played football since middle school. He was a standout at Overtime Elite Academy in Atlanta and has even declared for the NBA Draft.
Jackson ultimately decided that football was his future and went on a summer camp tour where he worked out for multiple schools. When it came time to decide, he picked Georgia over Florida.

His freshman season saw him appear in every game, primarily serving on Georgia’s field goal and extra point protection units. He saw some action on the offensive line in blowouts but not much.
With Monroe Freeling missing all five weeks of spring practice after labrum surgery, Jackson and redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Bo Hughley saw an uptick in first-team reps. When G-Day rolled around, Jackson got the start with the Black team (No. 2 offense) at left tackle. Hughley started with the Red team. The two players flipped sides at half time with Jackson working the final two quarters with the Red team.
