Georgia is 3-0 on the 2025 season and ranked No. 5 in the country. Alabama awaits in Week 5 and the Bulldogs are favored according to sportsbooks. BetMGM has UGA as the 3.5-point favorite.

According to ESPN’s FPI, Georgia has a 54.8 percent chance of winning the game, which will be played inside Sanford Stadium. It’ll be the first time UGA has host Alabama since 2015, the year before Kirby Smart became the head coach in Athens.

Alabama is 2-1 on the year after losing at Florida State 31-17 in week one. That loss pushed the Crimson Tide’s record to 2-5 away from Tuscaloosa since Kalen DeBoer became the head coach. Since then, Alabama has gotten convincing wins over Louisiana-Monroe and Wisconsin. Bama is 2-1 against the spread this season while Georgia is 0-3.

The Bulldogs started the season with a 45-10 win over Marshall inside Sanford Stadium. They returned to Athens the following week to host Austin Peay. That game left Georgia fans a bit disturbed, as the Governors kept it close for most of the way. The final score was 28-6 in a game that was moved up an hour due to weather and still endured a lightning delay of nearly two hours.

Georgia opened SEC play its last time out, a week three win over Tennessee. It fell behind 21-7 in that game and came back from five different deficits to beat the No. 15-ranked Volunteers in Knoxville. It was UGA’s ninth straight victory against Tennessee and the fifth straight on Rocky Top.

Since becoming Georgia’s head coach, Smart is 1-6 against the Crimson Tide. Two of those losses took place in Tuscaloosa (2020 and 2024). Last year’s game saw Alabama jump out to a 28-0 lead with Georgia coming back and grabbing a 34-33 lead in the fourth quarter. That lead lasted just one play as Jalen MIlroe found Ryan Williams for a 75-yard touchdown on the first play of the ensuing possession.

Smart’s UGA teams have also lost to Alabama four times in Mercedes-Benz Stadium — three SEC championship games and one National Championship game. Georgia’s lone win over the Crimson Tide under Smart came in the 2021 National Championship game, which was played in Indianapolis.
